Why is my percolator not working? How do you repair a percolator?

An electric percolator. Inside the well at the bottom of the percolator, water is boiled by the heating element until it squirts up through the tube and splashes off the lid onto the ground coffee in the basket. A thermostat monitors the brew; when it reaches a certain temperature depending on the desired coffee strength- the thermostat turns off the heating element, The warming element, which remains on, keeps the coffee slightly warmer than the thermostat setting, to prevent the heating element from turning on again.

If the brewed coffee does not stay warm or if it reperks, the warming element is not working and should be replaced. If the coffee boils, the thermostat is turning off the heating element at too high a temperature and must be replaced.

If the coffee will not brew at all, use a multitester  to check the terminals of the electric cord, the thermostat and the heating element for continuity; replace the part that does not show continuity.
To remove the warming element, unscrew its terminals; the thermostat simply lifts out. To remove the heating element, loosen the hexagonal nut inside the pot with a socket wrench and an extension; or use a pair of wrenches, one to hold the nut, one to twist off the heating element.
